This is a beautiful song that reminds us that in a world of shattered hope, there is only one thing we need to do. Lift up our eyes and look to the Lord.
The song is based on the following scripture…
I lift up my eyes to you,
to you whose throne is in heaven.
As the eyes of slaves look to the hand of their master,
as the eyes of a maid look to the hand of her mistress,
so our eyes look to the Lord our God,
till he shows us his mercy.
Have mercy on us, O Lord, have mercy on us,
for we have endured much contempt.
We have endured much ridicule from the proud,
much contempt from the arrogant.
You only need to open your eyes to see that the world is filled with evil, dysfunction, and disarray. It is all discomforting and it is only natural that we feel the need to take it upon ourselves to fight against the things that harm us or keep us from what we feel we need in life, but when we follow Christ, we have a better solution, and that solution is to let Christ solve our problems and fight our battles for us. When we give our problems to Christ, we no longer need to worry about the things of this world or how we will get along in this world. Instead, we need to remember that we have a spiritual fighter who makes things right on our behalf.
The ruler of all kingdoms, our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, will take care of all things for us.
The Bible Says God Will Take Care of Those Who Love Him:
Matthew 6:25-34 New International Version (NIV)
25 “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? 26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27 Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?
28 “And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 30 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith? 31 So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
Leviticus 26:3-5 Modern Language
3 If you walk by My laws and obey My orders so as to practice them, 4then I will grant you your rains in their season; the land shall yield its produce and the trees shall bear their fruit. 5Your threshing shall last until vintage time and your vintage until sowing time; you shall eat your food to the full and live in your land safely.
Psalms 34:9 Living Bible
9 If you belong to the Lord, reverence him; for everyone who does this has everything he needs.
Psalms 55:22 Modern Language
22 Cast your burden on the Lord, and He will sustain you; He will never allow the righteous to be pushed over.
Proverbs 10:3 New International Version
3 The Lord does not let the righteous go hungry but he thwarts the craving of the wicked.
Isaiah 1:19 King James
19 If ye be willing and obedient, ye shall eat the good of the land.
Matthew 6:33 King James
33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
Peter 5:7 Revised Standard
7 Cast all your anxieties on him, for he cares about you.
Trust in the Lord
We do not need to be bothered with what or how we will eat. We do not need to worry about what we will wear or where we will stay. We do not need to be concerned about the turmoil happening in the world, because the Lord, Our Heavenly Father, knows what our needs are, even before we do. He loves us and promises to take care of us. All He asks of us is to believe in Him and trust in Him, like a child trusts in his earthly father, we are to trust in our Heavenly Father to the fullest extent, without any doubt whatsoever.
When you are obedient and seek a life in the kingdom of Heaven, the Lord will take care of the concerns of this life.
Worship the Lord Through Music
Listening to Christian music can be very uplifting. Singing out loud to spiritually-based music lets the Lord hear our voice as we sing songs with words of praise.
Taking time out of our day to worship the Lord is pleasing to Him.
May the Lord bless you as you hear the words of inspiration found in this beautiful song.
